Student Absences

Attendance and Lates

Regular attendance is extremely important to enable a student to achieve the highest possible standing relative to his/her abilities.  Section 12 of the School Act states, “A student shall attend school regularly and punctually”.  Responsibility for attendance lies with the student and his/her parents.

In the event your student will be absent or late, please phone the school at 948-5656.  An answering machine will record your message anytime during the day or night.

When students arrive late to school please have them check in at the office.

Leaving School Early (Signing Out)

If students need to leave the school for any reason during the day, they must check out at the office. A note from parents/guardians is required for medical appointments or any other times they wish to leave.  Please hand the note into the office.  In case of illness, parents/guardians will be contacted and students will be sent home.  If parents/guardians cannot be contacted, your child will remain at the school.

#SchoolEveryDay

A new initiative undertaken by RVS is #SchoolEveryDay.
Coming to school everyday is important for the academic and social success of your children. Many parents do not realize how quickly absences add up and that it only takes two absences each month for children to begin to struggle. In the same way you keep track of the marks your children get, monitoring school attendance and working with teachers to improve the attendance of your children is important. It does not matter if your children are in Preschool or Grade 12, school everyday matters.

If you are having trouble getting your children to school or they find it hard being
at school, there are many ways that we can help remove the obstacles that are holding them back from being successful. The first step for seeking help is talking to someone at your school.
