Posted onHello Parents!
We have had a successful first week at Meadowbrook, with students nicely settling back into the groove of school.
As a new person in the school, I have received a very warm welcome from both the kids and the community, and I am truly grateful for that. I have been impressed with the caring, courtesy and maturity of our students and hope to see it continue right through to the end of the year.
We have had lots of questions and requests come through the office, so please see below for some of the more common questions and concerns. If you have input or changes that you would like to see in Meadowbrook, please consider attending our School Council Meetings.
A huge boost to our school resources is provided through the support of our Partners of Meadowbrook fundraising society. One of the main sources of funding we have access to is through working a casino every few years, providing $40,000 – $50,000 to be used to support the school. Our casino for this cycle will be December 7th and 8th, and we will need parent volunteers for us to be able to get that funding. More information will be coming later in the month.
If ever you have any questions or concerns about the school, email, call or come into the school and I would be happy to discuss the issue and learn with you.
Have a great weekend,
Tim Hasiuk
Principal

School Council
When I make decisions about the school, I ensure I have engaged with students, staff and parents as well as the physical data available. The School Council is the primary way that parents can have their voice and vision for the school heard. In addition, we have a fundraising society, Partners of Meadowbrook, which helps to augment the available resources of our school.
Our first School Council Meeting will take place September 9th at 6:30 pm in our school Learning Commons. It is followed by a meeting of our Partners of Meadowbrook fundraising society.
Options:
As a school, we are lucky to have such a robust offering of complementary courses along with fantastic facilities like our wood shop, foods room and design studio. These areas rival those that are in high schools, and our community is so lucky to have them.
As we get through the first schedule rotation, and students have an opportunity to experience the first class of their options, we will open up a window for students to change their options. This window will open on September 15th and closes on September 18th. After that point, all schedules will be set for the first term.
Athletics:
Our athletics have already started, with tryouts for both boys and girls volleyball as well as cross-country kicking off. This year looks slightly different for team sports, as the addition of grade 9 will create an opportunity for a new competitive tier, Junior AA. Grade 7 and 8 students are eligible to play AA but will also have the opportunity for the Junior A and junior B teams.
As well, there will be a new form in all female sports packages as Rockyview Schools moves to comply with the new Alberta legislation on birth gender declarations. A full explanation of the reason for this requirement can be found here.
Drop-off Safety
Please continue to be mindful while dropping students off at the start of school. We ask that parents only stop on the East-bound Meadowbrook Drive, as we need directly in front of the school to be clear for late busses. As well, please do not enter the staff parking lot for drop off, as that area needs to be clear for pedestrian access.
Reporting Absences:
RVS uses SchoolMessenger to report student absences and late arrivals. This can be accessed on their website or through their App (iOS / Android). If a student is going to be absent, parents are to report that absence through SchoolMessenger and provide the reason for the student absence. The first time you use the platform, select sign-up and follow the prompts.
Student Sign Out:
When students need to leave the school part way through the day, parents must sign them out of the office or speak directly to the office personnel. This is to ensure the safety of the students in our care.
