BULLDOG STRONG
Student Leadership Update
Preparations are underway for some Halloween festivities during part of the day on October 31 as well as other up-and-coming events led by our Leadership 7 and 8 classes. Their aim is to ensure there are a variety of fun activities for everyone to enjoy. Students can choose to dress up or not as part of the fun of the day.
For those who like to plan early, please note that costumes must not promote alcohol, drugs, racism, sexism, or any form of intolerance. No masks and no face makeup which might hide the identity of a student are to be worn. Students will be asked to remove or cover up costumes if they are inappropriate.
Remembrance Day Preparations
Remembrance Day Ceremony preparations are on the horizon, and we are hoping to make our Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 8th extra meaningful through connections to important people from the past.
Families are asked to send in digital copies of any relatives who have served in any military capacity for an impactful slideshow at our ceremony. At minimum we require the following information for these photos, but feel free to add other details:
- Name of the individual
- The capacity in which they served
- An interesting detail
- the student(s) relationship to the person
Please send these digital photos to jlaw@rockyview.ab.ca by Thursday, October 31.
For this annual tradition, we ask students to dress respectfully for our ceremony to show respect for those who sacrificed for our country.

Intramural Sports
Did you know that we offer lunch recess sports activities in the gym? Intramurals are a great way for students to burn off energy, make new peer connections, and engage in wellness outside of Phys Ed class. See the schedule below, and we hope to see students join when they can!
Day 1 – 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4
Day 2 – 6.5, 6.6, 6.7
Day 4 – Grade 7s
Day 5 – Grade 8s
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Safety and Locking Up Bikes and Scooters
Fortunately, the weather has been holding up for students to commute with scooters and bikes. A reminder that students commuting on bikes and scooters need to walk in front of the school when buses are present to keep all students safe. This area is at high risk for collisions, and we want to keep all our Bulldogs safe!
Our bike and scooter racks are located on a public pathway and students need to ensure their modes of transport are locked up. Unfortunately, there is no space to store bikes or scooters inside the school, and it is the responsibility of students to ensure they are locked up outside.
Bicycles and scooters brought to school must be parked in the racks provided and should be locked. Students are encouraged to lock removable accessories in their lockers. The school does not assume responsibility for bicycles/scooters parked on the school grounds.
Volunteering
We are always looking for volunteers for field trips and school-wide events. Thank you to those who have volunteered so far this year at our events! Parents/Guardians who wish to volunteer do require an up-to-date criminal record check with vulnerable sector. Criminal record checks can be brought to the office during school operating hours.
Office Check-In Procedures
Please note that Meadowbrook School is considered a closed campus throughout school day hours. Any visitors coming to the school during school hours must report to the office upon arrival. (Office hours: Mon. to Thurs. 8:00 - 3:30; Friday 8:00- 1:30).
BUILDING FUTURE-READY STUDENTS
Supporting Reading at Home & School
Does this sound familiar to you: "My child isn't interested in reading and can't find books they like.”
Our Learning Commons Facilitator, Ms. Harris, knows that some students have difficulty selecting books because they’re not sure what subjects or genres to choose from. Her knowledge of our collections here at school and resources within the community can help students find materials that match their interests. She can provide links to accessible online resources and help them to reserve books at the public library. She even has a recommended list of books that parents and students can co-read.
The importance of developing and maintaining healthy reading habits can’t be overstated. Reading helps build strong and rich vocabulary. It strengthens thinking processes such as reasoning and decision-making. It expands imagination and increases empathy by exposing readers to new perspectives. At the very least, reading offers a much-needed break from screen time.
