HERE’S WHAT’S COMING UP

Get Involved, Lead the Way!

School Council Executive Elections – Tuesday, November 19 @ 6:30 p.m.

Here’s your chance to take an active leadership role and help shape the future of our school community.

School Council Executive Elections take place at the School Council Meeting on Tuesday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Chair - Lead council meetings, collaborate with the principal, act as the council’s spokesperson, and ensure smooth operations.

Vice-Chair - Assist the Chair, step in when needed, and help manage council activities and initiatives.

Treasurer - Manage financial records, oversee fundraising activities, and keep the council’s finances on track.

As a member of School Council Executive, you can make a real impact within our school community, strengthen the connection between home and school, and foster a positive learning environment for students.

Any parent or guardian with a student enrolled in the school is eligible to run. No previous experience is needed — just a passion for community involvement!

Nominate someone or put your name forward at the School Council Meeting on Tuesday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Smile Cookies in Support of Local Charities

Meadowbrook is excited to share an amazing opportunity to give back to our community. Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie Campaign has partnered with the Airdrie Food Bank for this season. The campaign runs from November 18 -24, 2024.

During this time, 50% of the proceeds from every holiday cookie sold will be donated to the Airdrie Food Bank, while the other 50% will benefit Tim’s Camps. This is a wonderful chance to support two great causes!

To make it easy for Meadowbrook students to participate, we’ve added the Smile Cookie Campaign to students’ SchoolCash accounts. Order Smile Cookies ($1.50 each) online between now and November 20. No late orders will be accepted. Cookies will be distributed at school the week of Nov. 25 - 29.

What a delicious way to give back to our community and share in the joy of the holiday season!

BUILDING FUTURE-READY STUDENTS

Proactive about Mental Health - Open Parachutes

Preparing students for a healthy future includes being proactive about mental health. To lend their expertise, Stepping Stones to Mental Health (a joint program of RVS and Alberta Health Services) will be leading classes through the Open Parachute Program. This program is designed to offer students skills to support their emotional and social well-being. Open Parachute is a comprehensive mental health program that builds resilience, empathy, and a positive school culture.

Our grade 8 students take part first beginning November 18 through to December 16. Grade 8 families, watch for a letter from your child’s teachers with details about this empowering experience. Grades 6 & 7 follow in the new year. Stay tuned!

Christmas Reading Challenge

The Christmas Reading Challenge is well underway. There’s still time for students to grab an entry form from the Learning Commons and get reading! Contestants who didn't win the Halloween round can continue their book counts to submit an entry for the Christmas prize. Read as many books as you can (and include 2 novels with 300+ pages) before December 18. Big prizes await the top readers, so keep turning those pages!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Chilly Temperatures are on their way

A reminder to all students to dress warmly as the weather cools down. Please make sure you’re prepared for the winter chill by wearing your winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and boots when heading outdoors. Staying warm and comfortable during recess and outdoor activities is important for everyone’s health and well-being.
