Introducing Our 2024-2025 School Council

We are excited to announce the members of our Council for the 2024-2025 school year! This dedicated group of parents will work with school staff, students, and families to support and enhance the overall educational experience for all of our students.

Chair - Christie Cameron

Vice-Chair - Shannon Pratt

Treasurer - Marli Clennin

Secretary - Tara Olson

Communications Representative – Katherine Pickett

Volunteer Coordinator – Roberta Quansah

Throughout the year, our School Council will be working on various initiatives, organizing events, and finding new ways to strengthen the connection between home and school. We encourage all parents to get involved and share their ideas, as we work together to create an even better learning environment for our children. Together, we can accomplish great things!

We extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who have volunteered their time, energy, and ideas to support our school community. Your partnership plays a vital role in the success of our students, and we are incredibly grateful for your ongoing involvement.

HERE’S WHAT’S COMING UP

Gr. 8 Option Pick Sheets

Ask your Gr. 8 student about the NEW Option Pick Sheets they received today. The addition of Ms. Morrison in September opened up our ability to offer two new options in Term 2 and Term 3. All the details are in the letter distributed to Gr. 8 students today.

Pick sheets must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned by Tuesday, November 26.

Tasty Prizes for PBIS Tickets

We celebrate our students for showing the PBIS characteristics of Safety, Respect, and Responsibility. Every day, we see them interacting respectfully and making safe and responsible choices. To let them know how much we appreciate their positive contributions, Meadowbrook staff give out Bulldog Tickets as a fun way to say "thank you" for helping make our school a better place!

Each time a student receives a Bulldog Ticket from a staff member, they get a collectible Bulldog pencil – and a chance to win a free Healthy Hunger lunch.

This Friday, we’ll be drawing for free Healthy Hunger lunches – 2 students from each grade for the months of September, October, and November!

We’re so proud of the leadership our students are showing by demonstrating Safety, Respect, and Responsibility. It’s great to see so many students making thoughtful, positive choices every day. Their efforts are not only making a real impact but also helping to build a stronger, more supportive school community for everyone.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Tim Horton’s Smile Cookies Campaign

Thank you, Meadowbrook, for supporting the Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie Campaign! Over 500 Smile cookies were purchased by students and families. Your generosity helps the Airdrie Food Bank and Tim’s Camps reach their goals of caring for kids in our communities.

Cookies that have been pre-ordered will be handed out next week. Stay tuned!

Thanks for your PBIS ideas

At our recent Parent-Teacher Interviews, we invited parents and families to add their voice about what SAFE, RESPECTFUL, and RESPONSIBLE looks and sounds like. The responses were amazing!

Check out the fantastic ideas and insights that were shared by clicking the link here.

Your input will help as our team implements the PBIS priorities for this year:

  • Adding student voice to the PBIS initiative
  • Strengthening our tracking of positive and problematic behaviours to inform decisions
  • Examining and clarify responses to behavior
  • Communicating data to staff and School Council
  • Hosting assemblies, classroom lessons, and visual displays

BUILDING FUTURE-READY STUDENTS

“What’s in Your Career Toolbox?” - Skills Canada in the Classroom

Gr. 8 classes are taking part in a Skills Canada presentation this week. Skills in the Classroom is a program designed to change the way students think about trade and technology careers. The “What’s in Your Career Toolbox?” presentation will have students exploring how their unique skills, interests, and experiences can support them in shaping the life they want. As students learn to identify their core values and how to live authentically, career pathways will begin to open up to them!

In addition, students will learn about:

  • How to identify, develop, and equip themselves with employable and transferrable skills for success
  • How to prepare for a rewarding journey in trades and technology
  • The benefits of pursuing a career in trades and technology
  • The future of work and local and global trends
  • Skills Canada Alberta competitions and programs and how they can get involved!

Student Leadership Update

Leadership 8: Adopt a Family Event

Leadership 8 is eager to announce the annual Adopt a Family Event, a school-wide initiative to collect essential items for families in need. This is a great opportunity for our entire school community to come together and make a positive impact!

Here’s how it works:

When: Item collections will run from November 25th to December 6th.

Goal: We’re holding a friendly competition to see which grade or class can collect the most items! The more we collect, the more we can help those in need.

What to Donate: We’re looking for essential items like basic food items, health and hygiene products, baby items, stocking stuffers, small holiday gift items, high demand winter items, and other necessities.

Leadership students will be presenting full details to classes next week.

Let’s work together to support our community. Start preparing now. Every donation counts, and every effort makes a difference!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Drop-off & Pick-up Zones

To accommodate our bus-transported students, we remind all parents to ensure they are not dropping off students in the bus loading zones or the staff parking lot.

Buses drop off students anytime between 7:55 a.m. and 8:08 a.m., as school begins. We anticipate adjustments to bus drop-off times due to expected changes in weather conditions. We also ask that morning drop-offs remain in the designated areas across the street from the school or further down the block.

The parking lot is designated for staff, RVS maintenance, and identified RVS Transportation vehicles only. This area is not for pick-up and drop-off of students. You are free to use the spaces across the street from Meadowbrook School for parking.

In rare cases, for students with compromised mobility, parents require a Bulldog Visitor Parking Pass for drop-off/pick-up of students. Please contact the office for details.

Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring this space is free from traffic before and after school!
