BUILDING FUTURE-READY STUDENTS

Career Pathway – Skilled Trades

Did you know?  Only 14% of Meadowbrook students plan to pursue a trade or apprenticeship after high school.

This is just one of the reasons we set a goal this year to guide students in their exploration of career pathways. Skilled trades offer vast opportunities but tend to be overlooked.

Alberta's skilled trades sector has faced challenges in recent years, with apprenticeship registrations dropping to their lowest level in a decade in 2019. However, demand for skilled workers continues to rise due to economic recovery, infrastructure growth, and workforce retirements. By exploring these paths before high school graduation, students can position themselves to take advantage of apprenticeship programs and begin to build a successful career early on.

Check out these resources for information about skilled trades and apprenticeships.

PARTNERS IN LEARNING

Habits for Success: Class-to-Class Transitions

Time management is crucial to academic success, and as we move into the second half of the school year, we invite your partnership in reinforcing habits that promote punctuality and class readiness. Students are encouraged to gather their materials for the first two blocks at the start of the day, ensuring they’re prepared. Transition time is provided for students to move promptly to their next class, ensuring they are ready to start on time. The 7-minute break between Blocks 2 and 3 is provided for students to use the washroom, grab a snack, refill water bottles, and prepare for the following classes. These simple routines help students stay on track and prioritize their learning. Together, we can support our Bulldogs in building strong habits and achieving their full potential. We appreciate your ongoing support in creating a positive and productive learning environment.

School Council Fundraising

An important goal of our School Council is fundraising to support the continued growth and success of our school. Through various fundraising efforts such as Healthy Hunger, e-Gift cards, and our Casino Draw later this year, we aim to improve key areas that benefit our students, staff, and overall school community.

Here’s a glimpse at the initiatives we’re working on:

  • Security Cameras: Enhancing the safety and security of our school environment.
  • Teacher and Staff Appreciation: Showing our gratitude for the hard work and dedication of our amazing educators and support staff.
  • Facilities and Equipment (F&E): Ensuring that our school infrastructure and resources are top-notch for all students.
  • Technology: Upgrading and expanding the tech tools that help support learning and creativity in the classroom.

Did you know you can contribute to these efforts by donating directly to the school?

Your generous donations will make a significant impact on these important projects. Plus, all donations are tax-deductible, and you will receive a tax receipt for your contribution.

Visit the Rocky View Schools Donation page at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/592

We appreciate your support in making our school a better place for everyone. Stay tuned for more details on how you can get involved in our fundraising events and donate!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

'WheresTheBus’ App

WheresTheBus app provides parents/guardians and schools with timely arrival and location information about buses. This secure, easy-to-use tool uses GPS and tablets installed on school buses to track and report real-time bus locations and estimated arrival times.

WheresTheBus replaces the current Bus Status App used by RVS, which will no longer be available effective March 6. To ensure no gap in tracking your child’s bus, families should download the WheresTheBus app and create an account. The app is free, and families may opt-out at any time.

To create your account, you will need your student’s PowerSchool number, which can be found on PowerSchool or by contacting your school.

Click here to download an overview document. More information about WheresTheBus including how to create an account, use the app and frequently asked questions are found on this RVS website.
